    Question

What is the difference between Primo Central records with EBSCO links and EBSCO API?

    Answer

In Primo Central we have two types of vendors -
    1. Those who provide us with citations, which are then processed and turned into Primo Central records; and
    2. Those who provide us with access to the material itself, which we link to via link resolvers, such as Alma's Uresolver or SFX.

Some vendors do both, such as, for example, ProQuest.
EBSCO provide us with access to their material (but not with citations), which is why occasionally you will find records with links to an EBSCO Database when you're searching your Primo Central scope.

EBSCO materials are available to subscribing users only, and since the EBSCO API searches directly against EBSCO's databases, users are required to log in in order to use the API. There are no vendors that supply us with this material, unlike Primo Central, the records are built "on the fly" as the query is sent from Primo to EBSCO and EBSCO returns its search results.
